Stop Your Maintenance Events with Kenick VSS-20 Surge Protection

Surge-related equipment failures can mean service interruptions, costly repairs, and unnecessary truck rolls. Kenick's VSS-20 was designed to help protect outside-plant power supplies from damaging surge events and line-drop overvoltage conditions.

Surge Protection for Your Outside Plant

Kenick has more than 30 years of experience designing surge protection products for the utility industry. The VSS-20 combines utility-grade surge protection using patented X-Coil technology with special line-drop fusing designed to help prevent amplifier damage and reduce service interruptions.

  • Help reduce service interruptions
  • Help reduce repair and maintenance costs
  • Help reduce avoidable truck rolls

Multi-Stage High-Energy Surge Suppression

  • Circuitry absorbs and reroutes surge energy to ground or, during a catastrophic surge, disconnects power
  • Multi-stage TSS designed for low clamping voltage
  • Thermal disconnects for fire safety
  • Patented X-Coil design (U.S. Patent No. 7,085,115 B2)
  • Dual-voltage operation: 120 V or 240 V
  • 20-amp rated

Line-Drop Overvoltage Protection

  • Special current-limiting fuses help stop current caused by a high-voltage line drop
  • Rated for 10,000-amp symmetrical fault current
  • Surge durable up to 40,000 amps peak surge current
  • Heavy-duty design for reliable field service

Compact and Easy to Install

  • Less than 3/4 inch tall
  • Cord-connected for convenient installation
  • Special 5-15, 5-20, or 6-15 plugs help ensure use on the correct circuits
  • Hard-wired version also available

Field Performance: Keeping Cable Systems Online

A live 7,200-volt power line fell to the ground near two power-supply cabinets serving a cable network. The line struck the cabinets multiple times, causing visible damage to the cabinet exteriors and exposing the equipment to high voltage and current.

The customer reported that the power-supply equipment continued operating throughout the event and that the cable system stayed online. Each power-supply unit was protected by a Kenick VSS-20 surge protector. The customer reported that the only electronic equipment damage was a surge protector that burned up during the incident.

“We put a few VSS20 units on our most troublesome sites. They worked great and eliminated the problems. Based on that, we put VSS20BH units on ALL of our sites.”

Help Reduce Costly Maintenance Events

Outside-plant equipment operates in demanding conditions where power disturbances can create expensive service calls. Kenick's VSS-20 offers surge suppression and line-drop overvoltage protection in a compact package designed for field installation.
